Heathers (1989)

Synopsis: High school is a shitty place, especially if you're not popular and even more so when you are. Heather Chandler, Heather Duke, and Heather McNamara are the three most popular girls in school. They control everything including Veronica Sawyer (Winoa Ryder). They pull pranks on the weak and terrorize everyone that's unpopular. Well, Veronica has had enough of their shit and she's gonna do something about it. She combine forces with Jason Dean (Christian Slater) to teach Heather Chandler a lesson. But what started out as a prank turns ugly when they end up killing Heather Chandler throwing Veronica on a path of vigiliante justice making her the very thing that she set out to destroy.

Should You Watch It? If you've seen Mean Girls then this is the movie which inspired it. Although Mean Girls is a satire as well, it's more of a comedy with a very satisfactory ending. This movie, not so much. Heathers is grimm all the way through and some people might not be able to find the humour behind the madness. But if you're feeling a bit dark and a bit mischievous then this movie is definitely for you.

Things to Watch Out For: Having not watched a lot of 80s movies before, I never knew what kinda actress Winoa Ryder really was. But after watching this movie, I can tell why people had such high expectations for her. She plays the part of a confused adolescent well and although Christian Slater is like a million years old, he passes on believable as a teenagers. The croquette game which the movie begins with is a symbol of their struggle for power within the school and it does well in capturing the psychological decay of Veronica.

Things You Don't Expect: I actually like Christian Slater in this movie. Oh and the music; I thought I was going to have major problems listening to that synthesizer crap they had in the 80s but it wasn't that bad.
