Synopsis: Eragon is a farm boy in a village in a strange new world called Alagaesia. The world is famous for the once prominant dragon riders which fought on the side of good and everyone was happy! But of course not everyone can be happy. Oh no! One day some sour puss dragon rider thought he was sooo good that he betrayed everyone by killing all the dragons. The story is a bit fuzzy but all you gotta know is that now there are no more dragons and evil prevails. until one day a chick escapes from the evil king with a dragon egg. Then somehow the dragon egg gets tossed around to Eragon. The dragon hatches and claims Eragon as her rider! Then Eragon and his new pal, Saphira, go on the adventure to abolish the king and save Alagaesia.
Should You Watch It? The real frustrating part about this movie is that it had all the potential to be really really really good. And for some reason it just didn't happen. The movie had a bunch of holes in the story line and nothing made sense! It just feels like they skipped the whole second act. It was set up like the Chronicles of Narnia and it had the promise of a grand battle like The Two Towers but for some reason it just didn't happen. Instead, all you got is Eragon riding around on his pet dragon all the time which is pretty cool but seriously it coulda been used with more imagination. Come on! it's a fantasy piece afterall!
Things to Watch Out For: Like I said before, the dragon is really well done. And in the beginning it's soooo cute! And Rachel Weisz does the voice for the dragon which is very nice. The special effects are cool, especially for the shade villan dude. And one of the positives was Jeremy Irons. This guy just doesn't get the respect he deserves. He was the voice of Scar in The Lion King but after that it's been pretty down hill for him but he's great in this movie and if it had better writing, he woulda been better.
Things You Don't Expect: Sure I say films have holes all the time but this movie is just ridiculous. I seriously don't get it. But then I looked at IMDB and realized that everyone, ranging from the director to the screen writer, is a first timer. So I guess in that regard it's understandable but omg. Did they just forget to hire a story editor or something? It still puzzles me. Or perhaps the novel just sucked and they were just staying true to form haha the irony.
Final Comments:
Story: Fail
Direction: 5.5
Acting: 7.5
Cinematography: 7.5
Music/Sound: 5.8
Final Score: 5.2
